2009 Gonzaga Team Camp

Gonzaga Team Camp

The Girls Basketball program is attending the Team Basketball Camp at Gonzaga University this summer.  The camp starts on Tuesday, June 23rd and finishes up on Friday, June 26th.   The camp is held at Gonzaga University in Spokane.  The Lady Bulldog team camp is highly respected and well attended by many successful programs across the state.     For specific details on the camp you can also follow this link to the 2009 Gonzaga Women's Basketball Team Camp Brochure .

The Gonzaga Experience

Gonzaga is a team camp in Spokane.  We will travel their as a team.    We will depart on Sunday afternoon.  Our plan is to spend Monday together at a theme park not far from Spokane.  Once we are at camp, we will stay in the student dorms right there on campus.  Two players would share each dorm room.   Coaches would make room assignments.    You have three meals a day in the dorm cafeteria.  The camp is geared towards giving quality instruction and providing competitive game experiences with teams in and out of the state.  Each high school at the camp usually registers two or three teams for the camp depending on how many players they have attending.   Each registered team would have between 8 and 10 players. The different teams are registered with the camp at separate skill levels (Varsity, JV, Freshman, etc.) in order to provide competitive games.   Each team plays at least 9 games during the week.   Some players will get swapped back and forth between teams to give them exposure to different levels of play.    A full day consists of a game in the morning, afternoon, and then later in the evening.  Each team also has an instructional period each morning, afternoon, and evening taught by the Gonzaga coaches.   Everyone that decides to attend should get plenty of game time but not necessarily the same amount of playing time. Here is a link to a sample daily schedule.

Can I go to Gonzaga?

The primary purpose of going to the Gonzaga team camp is to come together and get better as a team.  It is an opportunity to strengthen team skills and build team chemistry.   It is not an individual skills camp.  With that purpose in mind, the camp is for players that have a reasonable opportunity of participating in the school's basketball program this coming year.  Going to camp does not guarantee that you will make the school team next fall.  At the same time it is not a requirement to make the team.   Each player would individually be responsible for paying the $275 camp tuition and any extra trip related fees.   If you want to go but have finance issues please contact a member of the coaching staff.

Silverwood Theme Park

This is a them park about 30 minutes east of Spokane.   We went there last year on a free day between the Oregon City tournament and the Gonzaga Team Camp.    You can can find more about the theme park by visiting their web page at   www.SilverwoodThemePark.com

Making Payment for the Camp

The actual cost of the camp is $275 per player.    We will ask $300 to offset some of the other costs of the week.   The rest will be picked up by the booster club.  Some of the other costs include...

1) Travel costs to Spokane, and back to Seattle
2) Two extra days lodging in Spokane since we arrive early
3) Admission to Silverwood Theme Park

We will start to collect checks the first week of June. All checks would be made out to WHS Girls Basketball.  When the time arrives, you would send your check to our booster club treasurer at the following address…

      Laura Frost
      22624 NE Old Woodinville-Duvall Rd
      Woodinville, WA 98077-7415

The booster club will then write one big check to Gonzaga to cover the total camp cost.

Along with your check, you would need to include a completed registration form.

Transportation to Spokane

Both Mike Shovlin and Stan Nybo have volunteered to bring their motor homes and help with transportation to Spokane.   Mike is the father of 11th grade player Haley Shovlin.   Stan is the father of 12th grade player Crystal Nybo.  With these two vehicles we should be able to transport all players.
